Dandruff

Dandruff is the dead cell layers of the scalp coming off like scale, visible to the naked eye too.

Dandruff may also be caused by fungus (Pity-sporum-ovalis) that can be found on everybody's scalp. If this fungus multiplies in large quantity the natural cell renewal cycle of the scalp speeds up. Then the dead epithelial cells stick closely together and leave more quickly.

Dry dandruff

The micro flora of the scalp is upset and because of this, the defensive system doesn't function. As a result, the Pity-sporum-ovalis fungus spreads and infects the cells, which are on the scarfskin layer. The dandruff plates on the scalp are not greasy and come away easily from the skin quickly. They collect on and fall from the hair.

Greasy dandruff

The dandruff plates are greasy and stick to the scalp. The patient complains about itchiness
If the greasy dandruff layer stays on the hairy scalp for a longer time, then the respiration of the skin slows down and hinders the growth of the hair.

Seborrhoea dermatitis

Fungus irritates the glands, which become inflamed and the skin becomes pink. Fatty acid is produced which is irritant and causes inflammation. The dandruff plates become larger and larger. This is a recurring condition but it can be without symptoms.

Dandruff can have external or internal causes:

- Stress
- Changes in climate
- Wearing hats
- Use of alkaline products
- Upsetting the PH value
